New web site, the beginnings of an on-line resource...
Riding Economy and Technical Efficiency differentiates 'good' riders from 'outstanding' riders.

We have made the new site more user friendly. Easy access to past news and training tips, clear calendar of upcoming training and availability, testimonials (which we love), etc...

Our next newsletter will co-inside with the launch of a login page where each rider can download their ride files. We are holding thumbs this will be as little as 1 week away!

We will include information to help you quickly analyse what all the graphs mean so you can understand your performance and spot weak areas, which in many cases are mainly due to riding economy. The software you will use to view your files is PowerAgent. You can download your copy FREE by following this link:

This article is about how you can improve your performance without any change in your fitness!

TECHNICAL EFFICIENCY relates to the skills required to be a competent rider. Following is a list of skills you should consider for development during your rides. You can choose a few to focus on during each ride which, when combined with your improved fitness, will change you as a rider. The skills are:
Riding over Obstacles
Front wheel lifts and wheelies
Rear wheel lifts
Bunny hops
Drop offs
Mounting and Dismounting cyclocross style
Technical Descents
Brake modulation
Picking lines
Technical Climbs
Basic steep hills
Challenging traction
Cornering
High speed
DH specific techniques
Sprinting

RIDING ECONOMY can be improved with bike setup, cadence, pedaling efficiency and how force is applied to the pedals. We have mentioned these in past articles and training plans, and they can be quickly summarised with recommendations:
Keep pedal speed high, particularly on climbs, by staying above 80rpm if possible.
Aim to keep power through 360 degrees of the crank movement as much as possible, breaking the habit of only applying power on the downstroke.
Minimise power spikes as much as possible, keep the power smooth and consistent through terrain changes, it will spare your energy and limit wasted power.

Many of these recommendations are perfect to practice on recovery rides so that even during 'easy' outings, you are developing as a rider.
