So you can train smarter and ride faster!
The lactate threshold test is used to evaluate the results of a training program. It is the best marker to evaluate whether all those hours of training are paying off and it is the single best indicator of endurance known.
The ability of the muscles to reach a peak performance during an athletic event requires that the energy systems providing energy be "fine tuned" or "balanced" properly so the athlete can generate the highest amount of energy per unit of time during a race.
Proper training is what accomplishes this fine tuning or optimal balance and it is lactate testing that lets the athlete know if the balance has been obtained or how each energy system must be trained in order to obtain the balance.
A lactate test provides a multi-dimensional profile of conditioning, it shows how well each energy system is developed and if it is balanced, and it teaches what is required for peak performance.

On an i400 bike with automatic power adjustment.
This means the bike will automatically adjust resistance as your leg speed changes so that your power output remains fixed. At set time intervals, resistance is adjusted upwards, a tiny blood sample is taken and physiological parameters recorded.
This process repeats itself until the point of exhaustion and then a final blood sample is taken 20 minutes after stopping.
You will know how well your aerobic system is developed, how well your anaerobic system is developed, how well your body recycles lactate (recovers), your energy system 'balance', if your current training plan is working and what type of training you should ideally focus on to ride faster.
A repeat test at 4 - 6 week intervals will give you comparative data and allow further fine tuning of your training program.
